I can’t believe I’m already 4 posts deep into this bookish friends series. You know how you can never have enough of a good thing? Well, that’s exactly what it’s like when it comes to having bookish friends (IRL or online).

If you’ve been reading this little space consistently over the past several months, today’s interviewee shouldn’t come as a surprise to you. If you’ve laughed over her snarking about Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines cover, you’ve already had a dose of her hilarity. Or maybe you saw her gif-erriffic outlashing against The Golden Lily’s cover last month. It’s about time I show the face of my lovely friend Shanna, then, right?

Here, say hi.

shanna-5020891I originally met Shanna through book club, and learned quickly that she was as much of a YA fan as I was, if not more so. I may or may not have shrieked, “What, you like YA too?!” She’s extremely passionate about reading, and I love our texts that include words like “Have you read blah blah book! It is so good!” and “OMG I LOVE TAMI TAYLOR WHY ISN’T SHE IN OUR BOOK CLUB?”

Also, Shanna has an excellent taste in covers:

Okay, okay, okay. On with the questions. Sorry, I just love Shanna a whole lot.

1) All-time favorite book (if you have one, or two…or three):

The Giver by Lois Lowry. It was the first book I ever read as a kid that made me say “Whoa” and it still has the same affect on me now, even though I’ve read it countless times. I adore it.

2) Type of books you like to read:martin_gameofthrones-2374327

I mostly read young adult. They’re fun, easy, and quick. I read to relax and get away, and young adult does a good job of that. I also read fantasy, and I’ve been caught up in my favorite series for 10 years: “The Wheel of Time” by Robert Jordan and “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin. They’re still ongoing, and you’d better believe I’ll drop whatever I’m doing and read the newest book when it gets released.

3) Type of characters/stories you like to read about:

I love dystopian. I can’t get enough of it. I also really love stories with strong female characters who proudly flaunt their feminist nature.

4) The book you’re constantly peer pressuring your friends to read:

The “Chaos Walking” trilogy by Patrick Ness. My heart absolutely bursts with love for that series. It’s some of the best writing I’ve ever read, and the emotion is so raw that I can hardly stand it. I mean, seriously, just look at this favorite passage of mine:

“I can read it.

I can read her.

Cuz she’s thinking about how her own parents also came here with hope like my ma. She’s wondering if the hope at the end of our hope is just as false as the one that was at the end of my ma’s. And she’s taking the words of my ma and putting them into the mouths of her own ma and pa and hearing them say that they love her and they miss her and they wish her the world. And she’s taking the song of my pa and she’s weaving it into everything else till it becomes a sad thing all her own.

And it hurts her, but it’s an okay hurt, but it hurts still, but it’s good, but it hurts.

She hurts.

I know all this.

I know it’s true.

Cuz I can read her.

I can read her Noise even tho she ain’t got none.

I know who she is.

I know Viola Eade.”

Y’ALL. Isn’t that amazing? I don’t think you understand how much I love this trilogy.

It’s by far my favorite young adult series (yes, I prefer it to The Hunger Games), and I fervently pray that they will never make it into a movie because there is NO WAY it could compare to the books. I’m fairly certain I will throw an absolute fit if they try.

Between you and an Upcoming Interviewee Who Shall Not Yet Be Named, I thank y’all for pimping this series like it’s going out of style. Todd Hewitt, you have my heart forever. So do you, Manchee.

5) Covers you love (or hate):

I love the cover of Bad Faith by Gillian Philip. I didn’t think much about it until I started looking at the tree and saw that there were all sorts of shapes in it that tie into the storyline. I swear I stared at it for ten minutes straight and kept finding something new in the trees. Another cover that I really love is The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly. It also features a tree with different shapes hidden in the limbs that relate to the story.

As for covers I hate, well, I can pretty much guarantee that if it has a face, I’ll hate it. Every single book written by Richelle Mead is an excellent example. I even did two guest posts here to fully demonstrate my hatred for horrendous covers like this. Oh, and I hate covers where two people are practically making out. Here are a couple of examples:

GAG. ME. OUT.

Isn’t Shanna great? Don’t you wish you had her as an IRL bookish friend? Yeah, I know, I’m spoiled rotten.
