a space for YA cover love (& a little hate) on the web. |

A brief introduction, if I may. I’m an avid YA reader, and I’m a twentysomething. Yep.

Technically I’ve been a reader all my life, but, after a brief hiatus during high school (apparently I didn’t think it was cool then), I careened back into the life of reading when my good friend Lauren let me borrow her aunt’s copy of Twilight two years ago.

Yes, Twilight, folks. Bland girl Bella and jerk-face Jacob single handedly aided and abetted in the act of making me falling in love with the YA perspective, and I’ve kept both feet planted faithfully in this genre ever since.

So there’s a brief history of how I became interested in YA. Let’s just say Twilight was the gateway drug. Novels like Courtney Summers’ Cracked Up to Be, Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games, Francisco X. Stork’s Marcelo in the Real World, and Natalie Standiford’s How to Say Goodbye in Robot have shown me why the addiction is actually good, and not toxic. Simply put, there is an impossible amount of awesome YA literature in this world.

YA love and soul-baring aside, I intend for this blog to examine the outside of a novel’s heart, its cover. Let’s be honest, there are some beautiful pieces of inspiring art, and there are some horribly Photoshopped stock photos that make you want to barf. Ones that make you want to gasp and kiss the book’s publisher, and others that make you want to SHAKE YOUR FIST.

I’m not quite sure where this little blog will go from here, but I’m hopeful there are others out there who enjoy sighing (and seething) over YA covers like I do. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to score a few interviews with some designers and authors. For me, covers can be read, too, as a visual message. I’m definitely interested in deciphering that message.

YA covers, this blog’s for you.
