You people are making this way too easy.
When this cover art first popped up in my inbox, my initial reaction was (verbatim): “What. WHAT IS HAPPENING.” This was aside from laughing, of course.
I don’t know about you, but when I think about relaxing in a tree (or falling asleep romantically in my boyfriend’s arms in a tree, for that matter), images like this one do not come to mind.
I also had many other reactions:
- That looks incredibly awkward.
- When she wakes up (if she doesn’t fall to her death), she’s going to have the world’s biggest mother of a backache.
- Can you imagine directing that photo? “Do you feel uncomfortable yet? I need you to feel more uncomfortable. If you’re not uncomfortable then the picture isn’t going to turn out right.”
- This cover feels like something Zooey Deschanel would have created à la one of her quirky characters à la one of her quirky movies.
- SOMEONE PLEASE GET THAT GIRL A REAL PAIR OF PANTS.
Chronicle Books, you win The Most Awkward Cover Art award, hands down, no competition. And what’s more, you also win The Book I Most Want to Read in January 2012 award because this is what your innards are about:
GIRL MEETS BOY, a collection of “he said/she said” short stories examines the power of perception, enlisting writing duos to tell the same story from two gender opposite points of view. Differences are clear in each controversial tale, but so are similarities, revealing the historic chasm might just be possible to bridge.
This anthology is not for the faint of heart. Their hands free, each author — most YA stars in their own right — wrote candid, sometimes shocking accounts of love, longing, stereotypes and the hope for clarity common in the young adult realm. These stories will have teens talking — about the book and about challenges of their own. (from Jill Corcoran Books)
A cover that makes me feel the need to blink several times in disbelief and yet excited to read the book? I feel like that deserves some kind of award, too.

In My Mailbox (imm) is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. We’ve had family from out of state visiting this week, and one of the cousins-in-law stayed with us for a few nights. When he saw my bookshelf, he gaped and asked, “Have you read all those books?” I was a little embarrassed to … Continue reading »

If you know me at all, you already understand that one of the quickest ways to my heart is through a sense of humor. (Candy is probably next in line, shortly followed by a certain degree of geekiness.) So when this post was brought to my attention, I just had to share the love. In … Continue reading »

It’s no secret that a lot of covers, particularly in YA lit, are heavily photography-driven. I’m not necessarily opposed to photography because I’m a fan of the medium to begin with. But let’s just be honest here, a bad photo is a bad photo. Sometimes you’ll find photography-based covers that don’t even resemble their MC, … Continue reading »

Look, A BLOG POST Happy Monday, friends! Please welcome my Twitter-turned-IRL-friend, Savannah, on the blog today! When she told me she had a set of matchy-matchy covers to email me, I harassed asked her to guest post. So without further ado, please welcome to lovely Savannah B. =) So, I snapped pictures of two … Continue reading »

Yes, you read that title right. A YA COVER COLOR WHEEL. All from the brilliant mind of writer Kate Hart. I almost fell out of my chair when I first saw this pop up in my Google Reader. A color wheel? Of YA covers?! Kate, you’re a genius. Clicking on the image will take thee … Continue reading »

Notice anything out of the ordinary? I mean, if you’re not completely distracted by the giant red monstrosities advertising both books’ NOW ONLY prices. I know I’m not alone in admitting that most girls can be enticed from several feet away by a bargain price. But the fact that both Susan Colebank’s Black Tuesday and … Continue reading »

When I first saw the cover for Tempest, I wasn’t quite sure what to think about the cover art as a whole. It’s an incredibly striking image, that’s for sure. And I knew I wanted to know what the story was about (a guy who time travels!!!). Lounging next to my husband, I leaned over … Continue reading »

Guess what?! The lovely Linds over at Bibliophile Brouhaha is hosting an awesome cover contest! If you haven’t been carrying on a normal busy life living under a rock, you probably heard that everyone’s favorite rapper who likes to Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is coming out with a YA debut early next year. If … Continue reading »

Honestly, if it weren’t for the other lovely bloggers that I stalk talk to on a regular basis, I wouldn’t be so inspired to post approximately 30% of my Cover Love posts. Oh, sure, browsing Goodreads, publishers’ sites and author blogs is extremely helpful. But my fellow bloggers, when their powers combine, are like a … Continue reading »

I decided to take part in GReads’ feature-tastic Friday question this week! Ginger asks: “Summer Love: Where’s your ideal place to take a summer vacation & get lost in a book?” Warning: It’s going to take a few paragraphs before I actually get to answering this question. I’m long-winded, you see. I know I rarely … Continue reading »

Last fall when I started this here little blog, my first post featured the cover art for Courtney Summers’ third novel, Fall for Anything. All of the design elements flowed beautifully together. It was the kind of cover that captured a mood, an ache of sorts, with a subdued color palette, a title that held its … Continue reading »

Less than a week after my first post about adult fiction covers reminding me of YA book covers, the lovely Katie from What Books Have Taught Me pointed out another familiar-looking adult cover: And its similar YA cover is just a click away. =) ALSO. I went on a book date with two friends of … Continue reading »

I’m wondering if I need to turn this particular post into a feature of some sort. If you’ve visited the blog on more than two or three occasions, you’ll discover that I’m not exactly a huge fan of Sad Girls in Pretty Dresses on covers. So when a friend of mine pointed this pair of … Continue reading »

I was at the bookstore recently doing a random round of cover-stalking when I noticed this gem in the bargain book section. It’s not very often that a cover in one genre (adult) will remind me of another cover in a different genre (YA). This was a pleasant surprise. Stumped on this cover’s YA counterpart? … Continue reading »

So, let’s briefly discuss my tiny fascination with ZOMBIES. Yes, you read that right. I’m an eclectic girl with eclectic tastes, and zombies happen to be one of my interests, especially after watching Shawn of the Dead and the first season of The Walking Dead. Speaking of which, WHEN IS SEASON 2 PREMIERING? I just spent … Continue reading »
