When you move into your new home the first thing that you can think about is making it yours, adding your personal stamp on the place is something that a lot of people enjoy doing. It is a big step moving into a new home so you should make the most of your opportunity to decorate it and make it yours, we all love bringing out the inner designer in us.
Here are 3 fantastic tips for decorating your new home:
Start in the bedroom
I think it is always the best idea to start your decorating in the bedroom, this is the room where you will be spending most of your time so you should make it as comfortable as possible. I’m sure you’ll be tired after the ‘big move’ so having somewhere nice that was designed by you is absolutely ideal. I don’t believe in saving the pennies when it comes to your bed, you need to buy comfortable bed sheets (don’t go for a low thread count) and of course a mattress that makes you want to drift into a deep sleep as soon as you hit it. A mirror makes any bedroom, we all need somewhere to look in the morning to make sure that we are looking our best before we head out to face the world.
Don’t get everything at one time
It’s very tempting to head out to the shops and buy absolutely everything you see. The truth is that if you do this you will end up with so many items that you never needed in the first place just being pushed into one of your wardrobes. It’s a good idea to live in and get comfortable with your new house before making any large purchases. The way in which we picture ourselves in the house and how we actually end up using it are two completely different things. Maybe you had planned to renovate the bathroom but have now decided that a new kitchen and dining area would be a lot more suitable to your needs. After a couple of months you will be able to see clearly and truly understand what you need to buy, there’s no rush because you will be in your home for years to come.
One of the most popular things that people are doing these days is to have personalised items around the house. This could be anything from personalised cups to personalised napkins, it adds that little extra personal touch to your household and looks great as well. There is absolutely everything available on the market today; bathrobes, towels, door mats, plates, mugs, blankets and more. Of course you shouldn’t go over the top, but one or two items will look fab!
