about tcg

First and foremost, I love to read YA literature.

I also like looking at pretty pictures, including but not limited to YA cover art. And I can be pretentious and judgmental when it comes to looking at covers. This little space on the web was just a natural fit. I’m not a designer or a photographer. (I’m actually a producer/editor.)

Because I’m terrible at talking about myself on my own blog, here are a few links to a few interviews I’ve done for a few good friends:

GReads!

There are some covers that catch your eye simply because they’re just drop-dead gorgeous. They draw you in because they’re thought-provoking, magical, or just different. This blog is dedicated to the designers, art directors, illustrators, and photographers who put their blood, sweat and tears into creating the face of a cover you want to stare at for hours.

Last but not least — my name’s Capillya. Nice to meet you, and I hope you stay awhile.

  1. Mazel Tov on the launch of your blog! I’m looking forward to reading your take on YA covers. Our YA program at Chronicle is still new, and we love to know how folks are responding to covers – ours and others!

  2. I love covers and occasionally have them on my blog, aprilhenry.livejournal.com. Look for the tags covers and dueling covers. Have you seen Jacket Whys? That’s a great cover blog.

And thanks for the shout out for Girl, Stolen. I love, love, love that cover.

    • Thanks! I have not yet seen Jacket Whys. Added to the feed.

And Girl, Stolen? My gosh. MY WORD. I actually read the synopsis (a blind girl?! what? KIDNAPPED?!) before I saw the cover, and there was immediate sighing when I saw it.

  3. In the next week or two, I am going to feature an interview with the designer for Girl, Stolen’s cover, Rich Deas, on my blog. He graciously shared with me some other cover comps. And the one they chose is actually a photo of a girl who is his neighbor.

Here’s another blog that is worth a look, even though it on hiatus, and it was for all kinds of covers: http://nytimesbooks.blogspot.com/

  4. Hi That Cover Girl,

Just wanted to congratulate you on the initializing of your blog, and let you know that I will be following. I too am very biased when it comes to modern YA book covers – I mean, Isobelle Carmody, with the Obernewtyn Chronicles, awesome books, but – what were they thinking?!

I completely love the cover for ‘Fall For Anything’, and look forward to reading your posts. :)

PS- will you only be reviewing ‘new book’ covers?

    • Hi Ruby! I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog. I won’t only be reviewing new covers — I’ve got a recent cover love post for Hush, Hush, which came out in 2009. I had a look at the Obernewtyn Chronicles covers — I see what you mean!
